At certain times in our career, we have a break, whether forced through unexpected redundancy, sickness or the need to care for a loved one, or others by choice, such as becoming a full-time parent.

When the time is right, we choose to re-enter the workplace, and this #jobsearch can be extremely daunting. You are faced with the dilemma of how to position yourself in the job market, what is your #personalbrand, and whether your skills now out of date or obsolete.

Positive steps you can take are:

1) Re-define and re-position your personal brand.

2) Upskill yourself through courses or qualifications.

3) Prepare a clear #careerstrategy

4) Produce impactful and outcome-driven branding artefacts that showcase your skills and make you relevant to today's job market.

5) Create a structure with a clear job search strategy.

6) Define a captivating elevator pitch.

7) Network through LinkedIn, other social media platforms and events.

8) Collaborate with a #careercoach to define your goals and aspirations.

9) Practice for interviews and polish your technique.

10) Ensure you are emotionally and physically ready to take the next steps.

All these items will help to position you as a career returner  and ensure you are ready to source and fulfil your role. I have worked with many returners over the years, especially #womenreturners, and it is possible to re-enter the workplace no matter how long it has been!
